China's teeth care day

      为了在公众中进行牙病防治知识的普及教育，增强口腔健康观念和自我口腔保健的意识，帮助公众建立口腔保健的习惯，从而提高全民族的口腔健康水平，1989年，由卫生部、教委等部委联合签署，确定每年的9月20日为“全国爱牙日”。

      牙齿(tooth)是我们口腔中很重要的组成部分，没有tooth，很多美食我们都无法享用了。另外，在特别危急的时刻，tooth也可以成为我们自卫或者攻击的武器。这大概就是很多英文短语中tooth都用来代表力量的原因吧。

关于tooth的俚语

1. set/put someone’s teeth on edge 

使某人觉得紧张不安或不舒服

The on-the-spot punishment of the criminal put Harry’s teeth on edge。

现场处罚罪犯让哈里觉得很不安。

2. be armed to the teeth

全副武装，装备齐全

Hitler was armed to the teeth when he launched the World War II, but in a few  years, he was completely defeated。

希特勒在发动第二次世界大战时全副武装，可是没过几年，就被彻底打败了。

3. draw/ pull someone’s teeth off 

使某人丧失能力，使某人变得无害

The explosion of the fort has pulled our enemies’ teeth off。

敌人碉堡的爆炸已经让他们丧失战斗力了。

4. take the bear by the tooth 

 虎口拔牙，铤而走险

We can pursue the strategy of market diversity rather than taking the bear by the tooth into the real estate industry。

我们可以走市场多元化道路，不用铤而走险，专攻房地产。

5. give teeth to 

授予(个人或组织)特殊权力和制裁权

This month Singapore passed a bill that would give legal teeth to the moral obligation to support one's parents。

新加坡本月通过了一项法案，从法律上规定了人们供养父母的责任。

6. grind one’s teeth

(因愤怒)咬牙切齿

The unfairness in our society always makes the cynics grind their teeth。

社会中存在的不公平现象总是让那些愤世嫉俗的人很不平。

7. show one’s teeth 

做出威胁的样子，现出敌意，发怒

A man who harbors enmity in the bottom of his heart never shows their teeth。

一个在心底藏着敌意的人很少表现得有威胁性。

8. fight tooth and nail 

拼命厮打，全力以赴地，不惜任何代价地

There is another election coming on next fall, and he knows we are going to fight tooth and nail。

明年秋天另一次大选就要来到了，他知道我们要为此全力以赴。
